Johnny Barber
Punky! the Emu

An avid cyclist, Johnny grew up in the car dominated sprawling suburbs of Perth. Perplexed by the patterns of life and rationality around him, his interest in ecological sustainability began after being introduced to 'Permaculture' at the East Perth City Farm while studying art and a career in Information Technology.

Leaving Perth in 1996 by bicycle Johnny became firmly centered in Permaculture at the Drylands Permaculture Research Farm as a long term voluntary worker.

He subsequently completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Ecologically Sustainable Development at Murdoch University, a Certificate IV in Adult Workplace Training and a Certificate IV in Permaculture. Part of this study being at the Permaforest Trust sustainable education centre where he was also introduced to Ken Wilber's 'Integral' framework for human development.

Johnny's current focus is the development of the educational content and infrastructure on our research farm. His interests include 'Energy Descent', Integral Philosophy, Systems Thinking and Ecological Economics; and of course bicycles.
